A person who laced sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males aged nine and 10.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was held in detention prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.

The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his family member had worries about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor explained items including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepson notified the police about his concerns.

She said the man went on to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The legal representative stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement again.

She said the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
